Utah resident Mike Weir followed up his first round 64 with an even-par 70 during the U.S. Open's second round and sits in third place after two rounds at 6-under par.
The former BYU golfer is two strokes behind Ricky Barnes, who set a 36-hole record by hitting the clubhouse at 8-under.
Weir had the advantage of teeing off for his rounds under much better weather conditions than many — including Tiger Woods.
Barnes, Lucas Glover, Weir and Phil Mickelson were part of the second wave, those who benefited by playing their first two rounds in pristine conditions. Glover equalled Weir's 64 with a second round charge that left him in second at 7-under
Asked if he felt sympathy for the other side of the draw—Woods & Co.—Weir smiled.
"We've all been on both ends of the draw," said Weir. "You get good, you get bad. And there's no question, our side of the draw got the better side of it. [Do I] feel sympathy? I don't know about that. I don't think anybody feels sympathy out here."
