PLAIN CITY — A Weber toddler is in the hospital after being run over by his mother as she tried to leave the house Friday afternoon.
The 12-month-old boy was crying when he was taken by Life Flight to Primary Children's Medical Center, but police were unable Friday evening to provide an update on the infant's status.
According to a release issued by the Weber County Sheriff's Office, witnesses told officers the boy had been playing with his father in the front yard at 2704 W. 1575 North, when "in just a second or two the baby had walked behind the truck." Neither the father nor the mother saw the child walk behind the truck before he was hit.
This type of auto-pedestrian accident is a leading cause of death and injury to young children, and with warmer weather allowing children to be more active outside, police are reminding families to be alert when using motor vehicles.
