TAYLORSVILLE — A 2-year-old boy died Thursday in an apparent drowning in an above ground backyard pool.
Authorities responded to the home near 1900 West and 5300 South just before 5 p.m. after a report of a possible drowning, United Fire Authority Capt. Clint Smith said.
"When crews arrived the boy was in full arrest," Smith said. "There was no pulse, he was not conscious and was not breathing."
The boy was quickly transported to a local hospital where medical personnel continued rescue efforts but after some time those efforts were discontinued, according to Smith.
Taylorsville Police were investigating the incident but said Thursday night that they were unsure exactly how long the boy was in the water.
The drowning did not take place at the boy's home — he was at someone else's house being tended at the time, according to Taylorsville Police Lt. Rosie Rivera.
Someone at the home found the boy and began CPR until officers arrived, Rivera said.
"It looks like it is an accident but we are still interviewing everyone that was there," Rivera said.
