NEW FILMS FRIDAY

DEPARTURES — ★★★ — This thoughtful drama's deliberate tempo may test the patience of some. Japanese with subtitles, running time: 130 minutes, PG-13 (vulgarity, sex, brief partial nudity, brief gore, mild profanity, slurs)

EASY VIRTUE — ★★ — There's not enough of Noel Coward's biting wit on display here. Jessica Biel stars. Running time: 96 minutes, PG-13 (sex, brief nudity, vulgarity, slurs, violence)

OUTRAGE — ★★★ — The fact that this gay politics documentary will get people talking makes it worthwhile. Running time: 90 minutes, not rated, probable R (vulgarity, profanity, slurs, violence)

THE PROPOSAL — ★★★ — More fun than earlier clunkers like "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" and "My Life in Ruins." Sandra Bullock stars. Running time: 108 minutes, PG-13 (vulgarity, profanity, brief sex, brief partial nudity, slurs, violence)

TYSON — ★★★ — James Toback's engrossing documentary may not appeal to anyone who's not interested in boxing. Running time: 90 minutes, R (violence, profanity, vulgarity, drugs, slurs, brief gore)

YEAR ONE — Michael Cera and Jack Black play cavemen in this prehistoric comedy. Running time: 97 minutes, PG-13 (vulgarity, sex, profanity, violence)
