Gadgets and gizmos for a golfing dad
For the last two summers, I've helped catch you up on all of the latest golf gadgets, such as the special golf spike cleaners, the belt clips that hold your tees and ball markers and the valuable Weed Whacker Golf Club to get you out of bad lies in the rough.
This year, I thought I'd fill you in on the latest golfing accessories before Father's Day, so those of you who can't think of anything besides cheap golf balls for Dad will at least have a few ideas.
Automatic push cart from Bag Boy: The three-wheeled cart features a one-step folding frame and has smooth-rolling, G-Force wheels as well as a beverage holder, a telescoping handle and a handle-mounted parking brake. ($199.95) Or you can rent a push cart at your local muni for a couple of bucks each time you play.
Softspikes Black Widow Tour cleats: Golf's first adjustable cleat enables golfers to custom match their golf cleats to their swing, balance and weight distribution. ($16.99 per pack) I thought adjustable driver heads were a bit much, but adjustable cleats?
Golfing Caddy water bottle: BVT Products made this multi-compartment tote and beverage holder that clips to your golf bag and will hold your cell-phone, keys and towel ($19.99) This actually sounds like a good idea for those of us who can't remember which pocket of their bag they put their cell phone or wallet or car keys in and panic when they guess wrong.
Gyro Swing: This is a swing-training device that's supposed to let golfers feel the correct swing plane and release through a "20,000 RPM gyroscope in the club's head ($219.95) Maybe if I were still a teenager and had a rich dad.
ShaftSkinz: These are lightweight printed sleeves for "added style and protection" that come in a variety of designs and colors that fit over clubs and "shrink onto the shaft in a matter of minutes." ($34.95) Uh, no comment.
Official NFL logo bag by Wilson Golf: Available in both cart and carry options with logos and colors of your favorite NFL team ($159 and $199). You better feel strongly about your team to carry one of these.
FiZ DT golf ball cleaner: Made by a Salt Lake company, this divot tool/golf ball cleaner is supposed to take the dirt out of a ball's dimples for better ball flight. ($12.99) Maybe that's the reason I can't shoot par, my ball is too dirty.
IDenti-pen ball marker: Called the "ultimate writing tool for golf, this leaves a permanent, resistant-to-water mark on your ball with eight colors to choose from ($11.99 for 8-pack). My Bic ballpoint does the trick.
Bobble Head Golfer: Advertised as the "perfect gift for the golfer who has everything." Headbobble.com can make true-to-life Bobble Heads from your own photos using highly advanced, 3D technology to sculpt the bobblehead ($59.99) Just what I've always wanted, a bobble-head of myself holding a golf club.
So there you go, folks, plenty of ideas for your golf-playing fathers. And if you don't like any of them, well, you can always buy Dad a tie.
