Family history, genealogy conference to offer 140 classes at BYU July 28-31

PROVO — The 41st annual Brigham Young University Conference on Family History and Genealogy, "Strengthening Ties That Bind Families Together Forever," will offer more than 140 classes, allowing participants to acquire new skills and helpful information in family history research. The event will be July 28 to 31.

The conference will be in the BYU Conference Center, 770 E. University Parkway, and free parking will be available.

Keynote presenters include Elder John H. Groberg, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy until named general authority emeritus in 2005; John Phillip Colletta, of Washington, D.C., who conducts workshops for the National Archives and teaches courses for the Smithsonian Institution and local universities; and David E. Rencher, of the LDS Family History Department in Salt Lake City.

Honoring those who serve in military

Mormon Times would like to honor those members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints who are currently on active duty serving overseas.

Please send us information about loved ones serving, including their name, age, branch of service, rank, how long they've been in the service, where they are stationed and serving, and their current ward and stake. Also, tell us a little more about loved ones, like why they decided to join the military, any other deployments or others in the family who have served. Please keep submission under 200 words. For verification purposes, include the submitter's name, phone number and relationship to the military member.

Joseph Smith musical is June 28

NORTH SALT LAKE — The Layton Valley View Stake is sponsoring "Joseph Smith the Prophet," a choral and orchestra musical presentation on the life and mission of the founder of the LDS Church. The production will be held Sunday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the LDS Bountiful Regional Center, 835 N. 400 East, in North Salt Lake.

The production — composed by Rob Gardner — is directed by Marianne and Randy Pulham and conducted by Austin Thorpe.

Bountiful parade deadline is June 25

BOUNTIFUL — Churches, civic groups, businesses and others seeking to participate in the Bountiful Handcart Days parade must enter by June 25.

Applications are available at www.handcartdays.org and include a $50 entry fee. Participation is subject to approval by the parade committee. The parade is expected to draw 100 entries. It will be July 23 at 6 p.m. and begin at the roundabout at 1500 S. Main and end at 400 North. This year's theme is "Pioneers for Freedom, Courage and Sacrifice." Other activities include bands, clowns, antique cars, horses and a helicopter flyover.
