5 candidates named for judgeship

ROOSEVELT — The public has until June 26 to offer comment to a state commission about the candidates being considered to replace retiring 8th District Judge John R. Anderson.

Anderson will retire from the bench on Sept. 1.

The 8th District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected five candidates as Anderson's potential replacement: Daryl L. Bell of Kaysville, a section chief and felony prosecutor in the Utah Attorney General's Office; Joel Barrett of Roosevelt, a private attorney with his own law office; Augustus G. Chin of Salt Lake City, an associate with the firm of Rasmussen and Miner; Wade A. Farraway of Layton, an assistant attorney general in the Utah Attorney General's Office; and Ed Peterson of Vernal, a deputy county attorney in the Uintah County Attorney's Office.

Written comments regarding the nominees can be sent to the Administrative Office of the Courts, P.O. Box 140241, Salt Lake City, UT, 84114-0241. The deadline is Friday at 5 p.m.

The 8th Judicial District encompasses Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah counties.
