RUN TO BENEFIT SCHOOL
HOLLADAY — The Ascend 5K Run, Willie Walk and Run 2009, an Eagle Scout project to raise funds for educational materials and building a school in Ethiopia, will be held Saturday, July 11.
The race will start at 8 a.m. at the Holladay City Hall, 4580 S. 2300 East. Preregistration will be available at 6:45 that morning. Registration fees are $20 by June 30, $25 on race day, $15 for walkers and $70 for families for up to five runners, with a $10 fee for each additional runner.

MINE FOR GEMS AT SNOWBIRD
Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort has opened its summer activities.
New for 2009 is the Wasatch Mining Company Gemstone Mine, where participants can pan for gemstones in Snowbird's own mining sluice.
Snowbird's all-day activities pass for $32 for adults includes unlimited, daily use of the aerial tram, Peruvian Express chairlift and tunnel (weather permitting), Alpine Slide, four-station climbing wall, ZipRider, Bungy Trampoline and mechanical bull.

'WINGS OF THUNDER' PREMIERE
The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge will host the premiere of "Wings of Thunder: A Portrait of Life" at the Wildlife Education Center on Saturday.
It will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "Wings of Thunder" features dramatic shots of the area's migratory birds and documents the story of the refuge destroyed by flooding 1984 and its rise through community activism.

FOR WEEKEND RACE
East Canyon State Park campground will be closed Friday and Saturday to accommodate the Ragnar Wasatch Back Relay Race. Day-use access will be available with limited parking Friday until 7 p.m. Day-use facilities will be open for regular business Saturday.
