PAGE, Ariz. — Two 37-foot cabin-cruiser boats sank during a weekend fire at Wahweap Marina on Lake Powell.
A ranger was patrolling the area at about 11:30 p.m. Friday when he noticed flames from one of the docks, the National Park Service said in a news release.
The ranger notified dispatchers and began to remove surrounding boats from the area around the two boats that were ablaze. Firefighters arrived, and the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, according to the park service.
"The actions of the park ranger and the quick response time to the fire prevented additional damage to the docks and other boats in the marina," the news release said.
Both of the boats that sank were privately owned. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
