Freedom Festival's historic tours of Provo begins

PROVO — As part of the Freedom Festival, a self-guided tour of Provo buildings listed on local and national historic registers is now available.

The Provo City Landmarks Commission, the Utah Division of State History and the National Parks Service worked together to create the tour.

Tours are available June 15 through July 4. Anyone can participate by picking up a free "Historic Provo" guidebook at the Provo Utah Valley Convention & Visitor's Bureau, 111 S. University Ave., the Provo City Library, 550 N. University Ave., the Provo City Utilities Building, 251 W. 800 North, the Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce (Historic County Courthouse, Suite 215), Los Hermanos Restaurant, 10 W. Center Street, or the Provo City Center Office of Community Development, 330 W. 100 South.

The guidebook contains a history of Provo, along with information about the development of its historic architecture and photographs of several historic sites. Interior tours of homes in the Timpanogos neighborhood are also available on June 18 and 19, starting from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tours will end by 7 p.m.

On June 19, there will also be a reception at 7:30 p.m. in the Provo City Library's Academy Square, 550 N. University Ave., with historian D. Robert Carter.
