News from around the dial (and rude comments)

An enormous amount of TV info crosses my desk — well, my computer — in the course of an average day.

Every single release assures me it's the most important bit of information since color TV was invented. And, of course, very little of it is even vaguely interesting.

But, in the interest of sharing — and the interest of filling up a TV column — here's a sampling:

"Sci Fi's partnership with KFC Restaurants for the critically acclaimed 'Battlestar Galactica's' final season became the network's most successful sponsorship since 'Eureka's' Degree integration during the summer of 2008."

Hey, I'm a fan of both "Galactica" and chicken, but I never quite got how the two related.

"Some of the biggest names in stand-up comedy — Cedric 'The Entertainer,' Margaret Cho and 'Weeds' star Kevin Nealon — will each premiere their latest stand-up specials for the first time ever on Showtime."

When, exactly, did Kevin Nealon become "one of the biggest names in stand-up comedy?

Somebody sent me "Video of Vomiting Stars."

I didn't open it.

"CBS News correspondent Priya David was the first to speak with James Kambewa, the man believed to be the father of the young girl Madonna is adopting from Malawi."

I'm shocked. Madonna is still news?

"Mythbusters blowing up June ratings. Wednesday's #1 cable program in prime time among men for second week in row."

If you've ever seen the show, you know why "blowing up" is kind of funny.

"Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Rosita and more of the 'Sesame Street' gang are descending on Washington, D.C., this July 4th for America's biggest birthday party, 'A Capitol Fourth!"

Actually, the presence of Muppets makes this kind of must-see TV!

"MTV kicks off the next installment of the highly anticipated reality series 'The Real World' from the coastal city of Cancun, Mexico. ... From sexy hook-ups to blood-boiling fights, the Mexican Caribbean will never be the same as drama unfolds this season."

And people say MTV is all about exploitation.
