It was the icing for RSL's first road victory since a win at San Jose last September.

"We did well defensively, but at the same token when he had some chances in front of the net we finished those chances," said Mathis.

According to Kreis, his team's modest 1-0-1 record the past two matches is the result of a commitment to defend and become a difficult team to break down. Up 2-0, RSL got a bigger boost when Lewis was red carded in the 65th minute for tossing the ball at Javier Morales as he lay on the ground. Either way, RSL seemed poised for the victory.

Kyle Beckerman wanted to keep it in perspective.

"It's just one win. We got the fourth win of the season, which is great, and hopefully now we can put that little slump we had behind us," he said. "And now let's get back and try and get in those playoffs."
