The following are some of the pending and resolved cases involving Utah teachers and charges of sexual misconduct that have made the news in recent months:

Keith Lorraine Gillins, 61, of Fillmore, was charged June 9 with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, a third-degree felony, involving a female student. Gillins has taught English and coached boys basketball at Millard High School. His case is pending.

Linda Nef, 46, of Bountiful, is charged with rape of a child and forcible sodomy, both first-degree felonies, in connection with alleged sexual activity with a 13-year-old boy. Nef's attorney is in the process of finalizing details of a plea bargain. Nef taught Utah Studies and was a cheerleading adviser at Bountiful Junior High School. She has resigned from the Davis School District.

Valynne Bowers, 39, of Bountiful, is facing charges of rape and forcible sodomy, both first-degree felonies, in allegedly engaging in sexual activity with the same boy that prosecutors have linked with Nef. However, Bowers is charged with sexual acts that prosecutors say occurred when the boy was 14, which puts this case in a somewhat different category than Nef's case because the boy was older. Bowers, who taught math at Bountiful Junior High, is on administrative leave.

Jose Bernardo Fanjul, 46, of Salt Lake City, was acquitted June 5 of five counts of forcible sodomy and five counts of forcible sexual abuse, all lodged in connection with claims that he had engaged in illegal sexual activity with a 16-year-old female student. A judge said prosecutors had not presented sufficient evidence to meet the legal standard of reasonable doubt. A former counselor at the same school, Marcos Herrera, 53, is serving three consecutive one- to 15-year prison terms for having sex with the same girl when she was 14.
