Many members of the team have been playing together for three years, which helped Patchel when it came time to choose the team. The U.S. Men's Junior National Team finished third at the 2008 NORCECA Continental Championships in El Salvador.

"We basically kept the same group together and we looked at who could fill the best situational role," said Patchell. "I think it's an excellent group of athletes."

FIVB will draw lots to decide pools on June 17th.

WEBER STATE

TRACK AND FIELD: Weber State's Brock Rose, a junior from North Ogden, competed in the 200 meters at the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week in Fayetteville, Ark. Rose, the 2009 Big Sky Conference men's outdoor 100- and 200-meters champion, found out late Monday afternoon that he would be included in the field.

Rose came close to an automatic berth to the NCAA championships last week in Eugene, Ore., at the NCAA West Region meet. The top five place finishers received berths. Rose was sixth in a time of 21.35. UCLA's Karlton Rolle was fifth in 21.34.

"One of the runners who placed in the top five at the region meet is not running (this week), so Brock's sixth-place time made the first alternate runner," said WSU men's track and field coach Dan Walker. "It was a surprise, so everyone is scrambling to make transportation and rooming arrangements, but Brock is excited for the opportunity."

Rose has a personal-best time of 21.13 in the 200 meters. That is the fourth-best time in Weber State school history.

Also, Jace Nye, a junior from Kaysville, Utah, has been honored by CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine. Nye was named to the Academic All-District Eight Second Team for men's cross country/track and field. He carries a 3.47 gpa in English Teaching.

To be nominated, student-athletes must have at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.30, must have participated in at least half of the team's events and contributed to the team's success with above average individual athletic effort.

Nye ran on the WSU men's cross country team which placed second in the 2008 Big Sky Conference championship. He placed 19th in a time of 24:42.5 on the 8K course in Portland, Oregon.

At the 2009 Big Sky Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, Nye was named the Male Track Co-Athlete of the Meet, winning the 800 meters (1:53.86) and mile run (4:16.52). He was also a double-winner at the 2009 Big Sky Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships with victories in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:02.29) and 800 meters (1:52.58).
