Ogden's only goal came at the worst moment possible for the Cougars–during four minutes of extended time awarded at the end of the game. A late Ogden substitution gained possession of the ball in the middle of a Cougar offensive, leaving the backfield vulnerable and, after making his way around a BYU defender, sent the game-winning shot into the goal.

BYU realized the magnitude of its mistake, and in the last 30 seconds of the game, pushed every single player — including goalkeeper Bryan Black — up to the Ogden box in hopes of putting in a goal. They were unable to connect, however, and left the field disappointed at having lost a game they dominated.

"We outplayed them," Watkins said. "But sometimes outplaying doesn't matter. The guys will be very fired up to play this team again."

The Cougars next face the Outlaws on Saturday in Ogden.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Russell Lavaja and Joe Kauliakamoa have both been named to the 12-player roster for the U.S. Men's Junior National Team, which will compete at the 2009 FIVB World Championship on July 31-Aug. 9 in Pune, India.

The team, coached by BYU head coach Shawn Patchell, will begin training on July 14 in Chula Vista, Calif., in preparation for the tournament.

"The number one goal is that everyone stays healthy," said Patchell. "Then we want to gel as a team. Hopefully we can create some good chemistry and have a chance to medal."

Patchell led the U.S. Men's Junior National Team to a bronze medal at the NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship in San Salvador, El Salvador, last July, which qualified them for the World Championship.

Seven players from that bronze-medal winning team will return for the U.S. at the World Championship. Along with Kauliakamoa (Las Vegas, Nev.), these players are Tri Bourne (Honolulu, Hawai'i), Tyler Jaynes (Granite Bay, Calif.), Brad Lawson (Honolulu, Hawai'i), Erik Shoji (Honolulu, Hawai'i), who was named Best Defender, Best Receiver and Best Libero at the NORCECA Championship, Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Joe Sunder (Greensburg, Pa.).

Joining them will be Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Lavaja (St. Charles, Ill.), Matt Stork (Topanga, Calif.), Nick Vogel (El Cajon, Calif.) and Thomas Amberg (El Cajon, Calif.).
