A woman was run over by a car in a parking garage Wednesday, police said.
The woman was struck by the driver's side door of the car about 1:15 p.m. in the back of a parking garage located at 649 E. 100 South, said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan.
The woman was standing outside the vehicle by the driver's side door when an 11-year-old boy in the idling car accidentally hit the gear-shift lever into reverse. McGowan said the woman was hit by the door of the car, causing her to fall and hit her head on the ground. The car made a "complete circle" with the boy in it, running over the woman's legs, McGowan said.
The woman, who was believed to be in her 30s, was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
"It's important for the public to know they should never leave a child unattended in a car," McGowan said.
