Salt Lake City officially welcomed The Leonardo onto Library Square on Tuesday.

The City Council approved the sale of $10.2 million in bonds to renovate the old main library as the future home of the science and cultural center.

"Today marks the culmination of many efforts and the beginning of a new chapter for The Leonardo and for Utah," Leonardo executive director Peter Giles said in a news release.

The bond, approved by the voters in 2003, along with a grant from the city's Redevelopment Agency, will cover the cost of asbestos, seismic and other building upgrades.
