SLCC hosts seminar for small businesses

Salt Lake Community College will host a conference to help small business owners take advantage of stimulus programs.

As part of the Financing Your Business Conference on Thursday, participants will learn about opportunities available to business owners regarding federal government stimulus money.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at SLCC's Miller Campus, 9750 S. 300 West, Sandy, and will run until 12:30 p.m. The Small Business Association of Utah will make a presentation on federal stimulus package programs for business owners, and attendees may also go to break-out sessions to learn more about managing a company's finances.

The registration fee is $35.

Hazardous waste drop-off sites set

Looking to get rid of old or unused household cleaners, chemicals, paints, pesticides, fertilize, prescription drugs or other hazardous waste? The Salt Lake Valley Health Department will collect the products at three locations on various Thursdays each month from June to September.

The service is free to county residents. Times and locations are as follows:

Sandy Public Works, 8775 S. 700 West — June 11, July 9, Aug. 6 and Sept. 10 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Holladay, 4626 S. 2300 East — June 18, July 16 and Aug. 13 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Salt Lake City, 1602 E. 2100 South — June 25, July 23 and Aug. 20 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

WSU offering science program in parks

After two successful summers, Weber State University will continue its Science in the Parks program in Ogden. The interactive program is intended to get kids of all ages excited about science.

From June 15 to July 23, the program will spend several days each at six Ogden-area parks and hold interactive science demonstrations from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each weekday (except holidays). Over the course of six weeks, the program will visit Lorin Farr Park, Liberty Park, Monroe Park, Odyssey Elementary, Jaycee Park and 4th Street Park.
