Plan-B Theatre's mission is to produce unique and socially conscious theater.
At last week's "And The Banned Slammed On," the company's annual fundraiser (which was sold out, like the rest of the company's season) producing director Jerry Rapier announced the 2009-10 season, filled with three world premieres.
"Radio Hour: Alice," by Matthew Ivan Bennett, Oct. 22-31. This is Wonderland turned on its ear — a dark re-imagining of what lies down the rabbit hole. The fifth annual Radio Hour, in partnership with KUER, will feature Bill Allred from X-96.
"Wallace," by Jennifer Nii and Debora Threedy, March 4-10. Wallace Stegner was the dean of Western writers. Wallace Thurman was the heart of the Harlem Renaissance. Their lives intertwine in this rumination on the power of place and meaning of home.
"Amerigo," by Eric Samuelsen, April 8-18. Who truly discovered America? Is it home to religious visionaries? A salesman's paradise? Sexualized commerce? Amerigo Vespucci, Christopher Columbus, Niccol?Machiavelli and Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz meet in Purgatory to debate who we are and can become.
"And the Banned Slammed On," May 1. An evening of five short plays, created in 24 hours and based on incidents of Utah censorship.
