Man arrested for supplying alcohol, raping teen

PROVO — Police arrested a man who they say brought alcohol to a camping trip, then raped a 15-year-old girl who had passed out.

The 15-year-old girl told police she went camping May 30 with several of her friends and consumed alcohol, some of which was brought by the 24-year-old man, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

The girl said she doesn't remember much from that evening, except that she awoke during the night to find the man on top of her and her pants off, police said.

The girl was examined at the hospital, and her clothing was collected by police. Doctors determined there was bruising around her genital area, according to the affidavit.

Police said they also obtained a search warrant for the man's home and gathered the sleeping bag into evidence, according to the affidavit.

The man was arrested and allegedly told police he had sex with the victim, but didn't believe she was impaired beyond her ability to consent, police said.

He said the alcohol he brought to the camp site also was consumed by other underage teens, police said. The man was booked into the Utah County Jail on $10,000 bail for investigation of supplying alcohol to a minor and rape.
