COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — The first mayor of this east-side municipality will run for his second full term this fall.
"I feel like we've made a real effort so far, but there's a lot more left to do," Mayor Kelvyn Cullimore told the Deseret News on Wednesday. "I want to get the city on solid footing."
Cullimore was instrumental in Cottonwood Heights' incorporation in 2004. Since then, he has overseen the creation of a city police department. The charismatic politician also petitioned for the creation of the Canyons School District, which will split from Jordan School District this summer.
The mayor already has planned fundraising events for the 2009 campaign season, he said.
If elected, he will "just kind of finish off what we've started," he said.
Cullimore is president of Dynatronics Corp., a physical-therapy-equipment supplier.
So far, no opponents have announced their candidacy in the mayoral race, but filing deadlines aren't until July.
