The Salt Lake City Council on Tuesday approved the issuance of $10.2 million in bond money to renovate the old city library, the future home of The Leonardo.

"A center like this needs to be downtown," Chairman Carlton Christensen said.

The city expects to sell the bonds June 9 and receive payment June 24.

Despite a slumping economy, Leonardo director Peter Giles said the center's fundraising is "on course." Giles expects to open shop in early 2011.
