The American Clean Energy and Security Act, or ACES, has put the spotlight on Congressman Jim Matheson — one of two Democrats to vote "no" on the bill. Stunning, but not shocking, that once again profit trumps people in politics. But what was truly astonishing was the genuine consensus of heartbreak his constituents felt when Rep. Matheson finally played his hand and sold us out. Was it foolish for us to believe, until the very last second, that he might turn and look at his own children and say, "I will be a leader. I will fight for your future?"
We have learned where Matheson's aces fall; far from making ACES an effective piece of climate legislation.
