SOUTH JORDAN — A chain-reaction crash Saturday landed one man in the hospital in very critical condition.

The crash happened about 10 a.m. at the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 9800 South.

Three cars were waiting for the light to change when another car, driven by a 17-year-old Riverton boy, slammed into the back of them.

The impact caused the three cars to hit one another, but the most serious injuries happened to the 43-year-old West Jordan man in the car that was hit first, said South Jordan Police Lt. Dan Starks.

The man was flown to University Hospital in very critical condition, Starks said. The man's name is not yet being released.

A woman in one of the other vehicles suffered bumps and bruises and was taken to Jordan Valley Hospital as a precaution.

Everyone else who was involved in the crash, including the 17-year-old driver, came away relatively unscathed.

Starks said investigators have received a blood sample from the boy, but don't yet know how fast he was traveling.
