In an attempt to commit suicide a Salt Lake woman tried to burn down her house and when that didn't work, she filed an insurance claim.
On May 6, the Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2674 S. 8850 West. According to the charges, the fire started when the suspect lit a blanket resting on a love seat on fire with matches. The house suffered damage from the fire, but no injuries were reported. During an interview with authorities the suspect admitted she lit the fire as an attempt at suicide.
Following the fire, the suspect filed an insurance claim with State Farm Insurance Co., requesting $90,000 in payment.
The 34-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated arson and submitting a false or fraudulent insurance claim.
