The LDS Church states that it stays neutral on all issues unless a moral issue is involved. Unfortuneatly, Mormon Times allowed Jerry Johnston to write a column regarding SB81. What truly separates good families, LDS or not, is the USA's failure to enforce current immigration laws.
After living in Arizona for five years, I know for a fact that lax border control separates many, many families. Most of the wives and children stay in Mexico, and the husbands come to work in the United States for years. Sometimes the mothers and fathers leave the children until they have another child that is born here.
Many of the fathers find or create new families here while continuing to send money to their first family in Mexico.
SB81 was voted into law, delayed and is now coming into law.
I hope the LDS Church still believes that when a bill is passed it should stand, just as they did with Proposition 8.
