LINDON — A volunteer at the LDS cannery in Lindon got his finger amputated Friday while canning baked beans.

Lindon Police Chief Cody Cullimore said the man, age unknown, was working at the wet pack cannery at the Welfare Services Center at 940 W. Center in Lindon when his finger got caught in a piece of machinery and was sliced off.

Those with the man called police around 10:45 a.m. to request medical assistance because the man was bleeding profusely, Cullimore said. When crews arrived, they transported the man and his finger to a nearby hospital to hopefully reattach it.

"It's a big canning operation," Cullimore said. "There's a lot of machinery, things on rollers, it (would be) pretty easy to get your finger caught on something."
