ROUND ROCK, Texas — The Bees took the lead in the first inning and never looked back as Salt Lake downed the Round Rock Express 9-5 on Wednesday night.
Terry Evans gave the Bees a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a run-scoring single.
They extended the lead with three runs in the second on a wild pitch and a two-run homer by Chris Pettit. After the Express plated a run in the bottom of the second, the Bees scored three more in the fourth on an RBI single by Evans, and two runs came home on wild pitches.
Round Rock chipped away at the Salt Lake lead and had pulled to within two at 7-5 when Sean Rodriguez belted a two-run homer in the ninth to provide some insurance.
Sean O'Sullivan (4-2) got the win as he allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
The top three batters (in order) — Reggie Willits, Pettit and Evans — combined for seven hits, seven runs and four runs batted in. Evans led with three hits and two RBIs.
