Rendezvous death an accident, police say

LOGAN — After completing their investigation into the death of a Wyoming man from a knife wound while attending Old Ephraim's Mountain Man Rendezvous, police and prosecutors believe the death was accidental.

Tim Andrus, 33, of LaBarge, Wyo., was wrestling with an acquaintance early Sunday morning when his own knife went into his chest, Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Bilodeau said.

"The victim had a knife in a defective over-the-shoulder sheath. Witnesses state that he was having problems earlier that day securing the knife in the broken sheath," Bilodeau said.

The knife went into Andrus' body about 21/4 inches and pierced his heart, Bilodeau said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical exam corroborated eyewitness reports that the injury was the result of an accident, he said.

Andrus' funeral is scheduled for today in Logan.
