Utah Utes baseball: Utes to open NCAA tournament against Cal State Fullerton
The University of Utah baseball team (26-29) will face Cal State Fullerton (42-14) in the first round of the NCAA baseball tournament in Fullerton, Calif., Friday. Gonzaga and Georgia Southern are the other two teams in the double-elimination regional.
Utah, which made an improbable run as a No. 6 seed to win the MWC championship and earn the league's automatic bid, is the only squad in the 64-team field with a losing record. The Utes will be making their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1960, and only the fourth in the team's history.
TCU and San Diego State also received NCAA bids, marking the first time in conference history that the league will have three teams in the NCAA field.
