Memorial Day event at Fort Douglas set

Military reserve units at Fort Douglas invite the public to join them for a traditional Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m.

Before the service, soldiers will put on a Memorial March. To participate, meet at the east gate of Soldiers Circle, Gate 5, at 9:20 a.m.

Afterward, several television personalities and Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, will address the crowd. The ceremony will close with a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps.

Free seminar at SLCC set for single moms

SANDY — People Helping People and LDS Employment Services in Sandy are co-sponsoring a free single moms seminar on Tuesday, May 26, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Miller Campus of Salt Lake Community College, 9750 S. 300 West.

All single moms are invited to learn about new community programs, receive new ideas for stretching the family budget and to network with other single mothers.

KSL Radio host Amanda Dixon will host a panel discussion about making the most out of every day. Tickets to the panel will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 5:30 the night of the event.

Library sponsoring kids reading clubs

The Salt Lake City Library will sponsor Superheroes: Powered by Books! a special summer reading club for kids, June 6 to Aug. 15.

Participants under the age of 18 can "read down" their late book fines by $1 for every 10 minutes they read. And if they read to someone younger, both listener and reader will receive that credit.

There also will be a Little Heroes summer reading club for babies and toddlers.

Get Out! will be another teen summer reading program the library is sponsoring. Its kickoff party will be Friday, May 29, from 3-6 p.m., at Library Square, 210 E. 400 South.

Tree climbing contest Saturday in Brigham

BRIGHAM CITY — Utah's 15th annual Tree Climbing Championship will be Saturday, May 30 at 9 a.m. at Reese Pioneer Park, 800 W. Forest St.
