Ogden woman burns down house in suicide attempt
An Ogden woman is in jail after an unsuccessful attempt Saturday to kill herself, and her four dogs, by igniting fireworks inside her home.
Ogden Police Lt. Mike Ashment said Sunday that the 52-year-old woman, who police declined to identify, set off fireworks inside her home near 400 North and Gramercy Ave. in Ogden around 12:30 p.m Saturday in an attempt to "blow herself up and start the house on fire." At the time of the incident, four dogs belonging to the woman were also inside the home.
Ashment said an Ogden police officer responding to a call about a possible fire arrived to find the house "substantially engulfed in flame" but was able to remove the woman, and her dogs, from the residence.
The woman escaped without injury, but her house was destroyed by the fire. Ashment said was booked into Weber County Jail on charges of arson, possession of illegal fireworks and cruelty to animals.
All four dogs survived and were transferred to a shelter.
