OGDEN — A woman was arrested Saturday after she attempted to commit suicide by burning down her house while she was in it, police say.
Police and fire crews responded to a call of a house fire at about 12:30 p.m. When they arrived, the house was fully engulfed, and neighbors said the woman who lives in the home was still inside, Ogden Police Lt. Loring Draper said.
"An officer arrived, and neighbors had already broken the windows, so the front door was kicked in and an officer found the woman about 10 feet inside the door," Draper said.
The woman, 57, did not want to leave the house, but the officer pulled her out, according to Draper.
"Apparently she decided to commit suicide, so she got a lot of fireworks and set them off in multiple rooms of the house so that the house would catch on fire," Draper said.
Three dogs live in the home as well. One dog came out with the officer and the other two dogs were saved by fire crews, the lieutenant said.
The woman was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail for suspicion of arson, cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct, Draper said.
No other homes were damaged as a result of the blaze.
