HOLLADAY — The Holladay City Council is poised to change a city law that would limit where horses can be kept in the city.
Despite the changes, the council plans to let current horse owners keep their animals, even if the property use becomes "nonconforming."
Elected officials are also considering an ordinance change that would allow small livestock such as chickens and ferrets in residential areas.
The ordinance change has raised the ire of Holladay horse owners, who say they purchased property specifically for keeping horses.
"Horse owners should know the capacity of their land," resident Farley Eskelsen told elected officials during a public hearing. "The city shouldn't be able to just come in and change the ordinance."
The council is likely to vote on the issue June 4.
