From her perspective, it is important to be friends with all the other young country stars now hitting the music scene. Swift trades text messages with Miranda Lambert and considers Kellie Pickler a best friend. Pickler, who got her start on "American Idol," is opening for Swift in addition to the upcoming country group, Gloriana.

"With me, I'd have a lot less friends if I was competitive," Swift said. "I feel like it's so much more fun to think of these girls as friends and hang out with them then to feel like there is constant competition. I compete with myself."

She said she is constantly trying to learn all she can about the music industry. During her show, fans will see various sets and visual elements designed by Swift. The star also plans in the future to keep writing her own songs and focusing on her music.

"My life is a whole lot different than a couple years ago," Swift said. "Every day is a pleasant surprise. I never thought this would happen."
