PROVO — Police are investigating a knife fight between rival gangs Wednesday night that sent one man to the hospital.
Two groups of men,— eight people ranging in age from 17 to 27 — met at Riverside Park at 1260 W. 600 North around 5:30 p.m. to discuss a recent argument, said Provo Police Capt. Cliff Argyle.
The groups, which included rival gang members, brought bats and knives, and two men with knives began to fight and injure each other, Argyle said.
Residents at the park saw the fight and called police, who arrived as the men were fleeing, Argyle said. Officers were able to stop and talk with three of the men, one of whom had been wielding a knife, but the men were not cooperative.
The knife-wielder received a stab wound in his upper leg and shoulder area and superficial cuts on his chest, and he was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries, Argyle said.
Police know the other knife fighter was injured, but he couldn't be located.
Argyle said officers know the names of all eight people involved and are still trying to iron out who was the victim and the suspect before making any arrests.
