WEST VALLEY CITY — The West Valley City Council has unanimously approved an ordinance regulating cage fighting.

The ordinance change has been in the works for months and underwent a major redraft after public hearings early this year.

The new rules allow ultimate fighting as long as organizers follow state code. The regulation also gives the police department, fire department and city Planning Commission say over whether the "indoor recreation" will be allowed.

In contrast to an earlier draft of the rules, the ordinance does not limit ultimate fighting based on the size of the venue. The earlier draft would have limited the fights to the city-owned E Center.

A complete copy of the ordinance is available online at wvc-ut.gov.
