SUNSET — This city's fourth freeway-visible billboard has been approved.

The Sunset City Council voted Tuesday to approve an agreement with Reagan Outdoor Advertising, which will install an 48-foot-by-14-foot billboard on city-owned property at about 1600 N. Main St.

The unanimous vote allows the city to collect $14,000 a year in lease payments from Reagan, whose 84-foot-high billboard will be visible to thousands of motorists a day on I-15.

Sue Hale, city recorder, said the city plans to use the revenue for special projects, such as building a bowery at John G. White North Park.

"More revenue is nice, especially in these times," she said.

The city has already received a building permit application for the billboard, which is planned to have advertising on both sides.

Besides the four freeway signs in Sunset, two other billboards are located in the city, Hale said.
