WOODS CROSS — The Utah Department of Transportation is restricting traffic on the northbound off-ramp of Legacy Parkway at 500 South.
The department has discovered settling for the second time this year on the off-ramp, which isn't quite a year old.
A depression has formed across the left side of the off-ramp, about the width of a traffic lane, said UDOT spokesman Vic Saunders.
Traffic is being directed to drive around the depression on the right side. Motorists will still be able to turn left and right from the off-ramp.
Larger-than-normal vehicles or loads are advised to use an alternate route into the western Woods Cross and West Bountiful area. One alternate is northbound Redwood Road from northbound I-215.
UDOT is also working with the contractor to come up with a permanent solution to the settling.
"We've taken this action to protect the motoring public from what could be good-sized bump," Saunders said.
The agency is grateful that the road is still under warranty.
"These kinds of things happen with new projects," he said. "We discover them and get them fixed, and we'll get on our way."
It is unknown how long the restriction will be in place, but UDOT is expected to advise the public once it is lifted.
Saunders said the ramp was shut down in early March when a depression formed in the pavement during heavy rains.
