Fair or not, BCS makes its own rules

But there's also that annoying matter of Congress. People like Hatch and Bobby Rush, D-Ill., and chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, are getting involved.
Doesn't matter.
Congress isn't going to accomplish much, except gain favor with constituents. And don't plan on a lot of support from the South and Midwest.
If Congress can't stop bank executives from walking away with millions in bonuses, and if it can't fix the economic crisis, it's not going to stop the BCS from monopolizing and manipulating.
Congress held hearings on steroids in baseball, and nothing directly came of that; players are still taking steroids. All the hearings did was shed a little light on the scoundrels who populate the game. But complaining to Congress is a lot like complaining to the boss about petty squabbles with a co-worker. What's the boss supposed to do about it?
Don't expect the BCS system to change, even if you ask "pretty please."
The best way to upgrade is to first improve yourself, not expect others to change on your behalf. According to a BCS press release, conferences will be evaluated over a four-year period, based on "(1) the ranking of the highest-ranked team in the final BCS standings each year, (2) the final regular-season rankings of all conference teams in the computer rankings used by the BCS each year and (3) the number of teams in the top 25 of the final BCS standings each year."
Unfortunately for the Mountain West, 2008 was just the first year of the current cycle. Still, all it needs to do is have three more great years and it will likely surpass the Big East or get an automatic berth of its own.
Then fairness can be somebody else's fight.
