For more than a decade, LDS Church members have played a vital role in ministering to the needs of the homeless in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre Society (\"Drop-In Centre\") provides food, shelter, counseling and career-placement services to Calgary's homeless population, estimated to be around 15,000.The Drop-In Centre, capable of giving refuge to 1,250 people per night, is comprised of eight edifices — including a state-of-the-art, six-story building erected in 2001. It is a private nonprofit society that receives most of its funds from Alberta's Ministry of Housing. However, the Drop-In Centre also relies on private donors for no less than 40 percent of its funding.Since 1995, hundreds of Mormons in six Calgary stakes have continually lent a helping hand to the Drop-In Centre in the form of volunteer service, fundraising and financial donations.See the rest of this story at ldschurchnews.com.
