A third-generation David Eccles School of Business professor has been named the school's dean.
Taylor Randall, who has worked as an accounting professor at the University of Utah for the past 10 years, will assume the leadership role immediately, and his appointment will be official July 1.
"He is a gifted teacher and leader and carries an unparalleled grasp of economic performance and strategies that makes him the ideal choice for leading this great school to even greater heights," said U. President Michael K. Young.
Randall's father, Reed Randall, served as a professor and director of the U.'s school of accounting, and his grandfather, Clyde Randall, was a professor and dean of the business school.
Taylor Randall has served as a director for the University Venture Fund since 2003, during which time it has become the largest independent student-run venture in the country, at more than $18.3 million. He has been a visiting faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and at Washington University. He is widely published in journals on operations management and marketing.
He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the U. and an MBA and doctorate in operations and information management from Wharton.
He replaces Jack Brittain as dean. Brittain will continue to work as the Pierre Lassonde presidential chair and vice president for technology-venture development at the U.
