Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s acceptance of the ambassadorship to China tells me, (A) Huntsman was not gaining traction in his efforts to become the voice of the "new" Republican Party; (B) he did not want to compete against Romney in 2012; (C) he is sympathetic toward Obama and did not have the stomach to aggressively oppose him.
The ambassadorship to China is high profile in Asia but obscure in the larger political arena. If Huntsman ever wants to be president as a Republican, he will have a hard time finding an opening as his name fades from the headlines.
