SOFTBALL: Dixie State's Haley Schumers, Kelsey Mendenhall andBrittnie Whipple have been selected to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-West Region softball team.
The three helped lead the Red Storm (39-10) to the NCAA Division II West Sub-Regional tournament championship and into the Super Regional's opposite California State University-Stanislaus, which also won a tournament championship. The tournament featured two four-team pods.
Schumers (Fremont High/Plain City, Utah) is a first team selection as a utility player. She is batting .412 with six home runs and 43 runs batted in. She is also 7-2 with a 2.43 earned run average as a pitcher.

Whipple (Grand High/Moab, Utah) is a second team selection as a pitcher. She has a 14-2 record with a 2.13 earned run average.
Dixie State finished second in the Pacific West Conference and was the No. 3 seed in the eight-team West Region Tournament.
Seven Dixie State players received all-Pacific West Conference honors from the league's coaches. Two of the players were selected at two different positions, giving the Red Storm nine first- and second-team honorees.
"It's huge," Dixie State coach Beth Collett said of the large number of her players recognized for their accomplishments. "There are a lot of good athletes in our conference. This says a lot about the talent of our team."
Members of the first team include third baseman/pitcher Schumers, outfielder Bailie Hicken (Lone Peak High/Cedar Hills, Utah), outfielder Dabney McIntyre (Taylorsville High/Taylorsville, Utah) and flex player Lauren Folta (Tooele High/Erda, Utah). Hicken hit .401 with seven RBIs; McIntyre hit .370 with five home runs and 30 RBIs, and Folta was 13-3 with a 1.72 earned run average as a pitcher.
Members of the second team included catcher Breanna Egge (Las Vegas), Folta and Whipple as pitchers and Mendenhall at first base. Egge batted .303 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs.
