With Granite High School becoming a casualty of budget cuts in Granite School District, other similar schools in the state are feeling the fear.

Rumors are swirling that Independence High School, an alternative school in Provo School District, is slated for the chopping block in the district's budget cutting process.

The rumor is not true and the school will not be closed, Independence High principal Sarah Bush-Lloyd told the Deseret News on Thursday.

However, Independence will be cutting its ninth grade and adding special education as well as adult education. Provisional teachers, those with three or fewer years of teaching experience, are not being rehired, Bush-Lloyd said. "It's a reconfiguration," she said.
