HOLLADAY — A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle while fixing a sprinkler system.
The man, 83, was working in a yard near 4000 South and 2300 East at about 3 p.m. when he was hit by the car, according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.
"An 87-year-old man was driving north on 2300 East when he veered to the left side of the road and over the curb and struck the man," Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Bob Rogers said.
The driver continued on for another couple hundred yards after striking the man and almost hit several other people, Rogers said.
"We are not quite sure what the cause was, but he does have some medical history that could have been a factor," Rogers said.
Rogers said alcohol is not suspected.
The driver was believed to be fine, but he was taken to a local hospital for observation, Rogers said. The man who was hit was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.
