A 54-year-old woman was killed Wednesday evening after a vehicle veered off the road and struck her while she was doing yard work in front of her home in Roy.

The accident happened near 3100 West and 5800 South just before 5 p.m. Wendy Kerbs was pronounced dead at the scene, Roy Police Sgt. Christine Stevenson said.

"Two vehicles were headed north on 3100 West when an SUV went to pass a smaller white car and the SUV lost control and flipped into the yard and rolled on top of (Kerbs), who was working in her yard," Stevenson said.

Police say Richard Bash, 40, was driving the SUV when it crashed, and he attempted to leave the scene of the accident.

"He fled and tried to get into a couple of different houses, but neighbors eventually spotted him lying in a field," Stevenson said.

He is currently in custody while police continue to investigate the accident.

"We are not sure if (the two cars) were racing or if this was road rage, but we did have reports from witnesses that said they were going between 50 and 60 miles per hour," Stevenson said. Alcohol might have been a factor in the accident, she said.

Police said the white car kept driving after the crash. Stevenson said they are looking for the vehicle in order to get more information about what happened. The car is described as a white, compact car. Anyone with information about vehicle or the crash may call 801-629-8221.
