ST. GEORGE — Southern Utah's first school-based medical clinic opened Tuesday in St. George, in a portable classroom at the area's alternative high school.

The clinic provides services for students and other residents who may otherwise receive little or no health care.

The Millcreek High Health Center is a collaborative effort between the Washington County School District, Southwest Community Health Center and Intermountain Healthcare. Principal Terry Ogborn said some students at the school are already parents who care for small children, and it's difficult for them to concentrate on academics when they're dealing with health problems.

The center will serve students throughout the Washington County School District who otherwise wouldn't have access to health care, as well as faculty who have no insurance coverage.
