Alfredo sauce a new take on an old favorite

Know how some people are always rearranging their furniture, adding pillows or a new coat of paint?

We're a lot like that — only with recipes. As our grandmothers used to say, we just can't seem to leave well enough alone.

Today's recipe for Topsail White Shrimp Spaghetti started out as Topsail Spaghetti with a delightful red sauce when it first appeared in our "Desperation Dinners" cookbook. But as we often do during "recipe brainstorms," we started to wonder what this recipe might taste like "if ..." The result is shrimp bathed in an Alfredo sauce, studded with bits of fresh tomato and basil — but still atop spaghetti and still sporting a hefty dose of garlic. It's delicious!

Much like we "redecorate" our recipes, lately we've been busy updating the style of our Web site, and we can't wait to show you around. Technology has evolved since we launched desperationdinners.com in 2002, and you, our readers, started asking for updates to make it more helpful and easier to use. But the old site had simply reached its technological limit.

It turns out Web sites are a lot like recipes and home-decorating projects, but we quickly realized we'd need more than slipcovers to offer the kind of Web site readers were asking for. So we've been hard at work! Not only will you find the new Web site with updated colors, a blog, a few new gadgets and a sophisticated "recipe box"; we also changed our address to www.kitchenscoop.com.

We'd love for you to visit and tell us what you think. (It's not too late to make a few changes!) There are contact buttons on every page, or you can use the new e-mail address at tellus@kitchenscoop.com. But don't worry if you forget and use the old e-mail or Web address. It will automatically take you to Kitchen Scoop.

We hope you enjoy today's redo of this fast and fabulous pasta recipe almost as much as we hope you'll enjoy the redo of our Web site.
