TRACK & FIELD: Utah State's James Allred and Clint Silcock swept the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Allred was also named the Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week. The WAC honors are selected by the conference office, while the USU award is chosen by a statewide media panel.

Allred, a sophomore from Helena, Montana (Capital HS), topped his WAC-best time in the 800m with a new personal-best and NCAA regional qualifying time of 1:50.20. His time is fifth-fastest in Utah State school history. The sophomore has now steadily improved his time in the event at each meet of the season, beginning with a 1:53.80 at the Oregon Invitational on April 4 and progressively bettering his time to his current PR of 1:50.20 that he set at the Utah Twilight meet last week. This marks the second time this season that he has been named WAC Track Athlete of the Week, after earning the honor on April 13. That honor came after his previous WAC-best setting time in winning his heat at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational. This is the first time this year that Allred has collected the USU accolade.

Silcock, a sophomore from Salmon, Idaho (Butte HS), jumped to a NCAA regional qualifying mark in the high jump clearing 7-00.75 (2.15m) on May 5 at the Utah Twilight in Salt Lake City. Silcock's mark is the top mark in the WAC and is good for fourth in Utah State school history. This is the second time during the outdoor season that the sophomore has garnered the WAC weekly award, after he garnered the accolade on March 23 for his previous season-best in winning the Arizona Willie Williams Invitational. Silcock also earned the honor once during the indoor season.

Westminster

VOLLEYBALL: As part of the non-conference portion of their 2009 schedule, the Griffins will face a pair of NCAA Division II opponents in mid-October when they travel to Hawaii to face Chaminade and BYU-Hawaii.

The season opener will be against Biola at a tournament hosted by Azusa Pacific on August 21st. Westminster will travel to California for two other tournaments as well before opening Frontier Conference play on September 11 against Montana Tech in Butte, Mont.

The Frontier Conference Tournament is scheduled for November 13-14 with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championships. The opening round of the NAIA tournament starts on November 20, with games hosted on 12 campus sites nationwide. 12 winners advance to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa on December 2-5.

Westminster returns three starters and eight total players from a team that went 9-17 overall and finished fifth in Frontier Conference play last season.
